Vienna, Austria

Day 5 and 6: Vienna, Austria

We got up and on the road early and made our way into Vienna.  This was by far the least amusing or interesting drive: the highway had been blocked off so most of the drive was walled giving us nothing to look at other than the highway and other cars.
We arrived in Vienna and drove straight to our apartment.  Here are pictures from our drive in:

Schloss Schönbrunn:

Our apartment looked a lot closer to the city center but it is not- oh well… we made it work!  The area of our apartment was a bit sketchy but the inside was great and was perfect for us.  Morgan was still not feeling well today so she, Liam and I stayed behind and Steve and Aydin went to the market with the Dosier’s.
The market was fantastic- they are open Monday-Saturday (today being Saturday- they had to go!!) had hundreds of venders and restaurants selling everything from local produce to live fish!!  Steve and Aydin came back around 6:00 with sushi for me and a little take away box of baklava...  Steve was so sweet to think of me while they were out!!  By the time they came back, Morgan was feeling a bit better- so we got up and headed into the city for a few hours.
We first started by the market- although most of the benders had closed up already (7pm was closing time for most) we stopped for drinks (kids had the best hot chocolate ever) and watched a bit of the soccer game: Brazil vs. Chile

Naschmarkt Market: All closed up:
Once we were done sitting around, we started walking around a bit:

We headed towards Wiener Secessionsgebäude:
This is an Secession style building used for an exhibition hall. This building can be found on their 50 cent coins.
Then walked to the Wiener Staatsoper (Viena State Opera)

It is said to be the revered opera houses in the world! Too bad we didn’t get to go in…

 ...then by the Albertina Museum:
and around to the Hofburg Palace (the back part at least)
and found the Butterfly garden... something we are going to do tomorrow:

We then walked up towards St Stephan’s Cathedral.  On the way to the Cathedral, we stopped for frozen yogurt and to finish watching the game, it was now in 2nd overtime and headed towards penalties.
Brazil won in the shootout...
I never liked shootouts- I think it is a lame way to win a game but what do I know?!

Graben Street:

Peterskirche (St Peters Chruch)

This is a hidden church from the 18th century we spotted walking towards St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
Stephansdom (St Stephen’s Cathedral)

12th century cathedral where a lot of the Habsburg members are buried.

The Cathedral was amazing!!  So beautiful with the lights on.  Im so glad we came out this evening to see it all... I just hope Morgan is better for tomorrow so we can see and do everything we hoped to while in Vienna.
