Venice

Our first day was in Venice.
It was built in the middle of a mud lagoon and consists of more than 100 islands. Some of these building that the Venetians built are more than 400 years old and still standing.

Venice was on my list of 'must sees' while in Europe.
It was a very cool place to visit but I can say.... one day is enough for me.  It is one place I do not need to go back.  Not only that but it was COLD!!  We came to Venice at the end of August and we had to change out of our summer clothes and into pants before heading out into town.

We made our first stop at a kiosko to purchase boat ferry tickets and then made our way into Venice...
via water taxi

Once we got off the boat- we went straight to these little shops and bought an umbrella (YES not only was it cold but it was raining too- for the first half of the day)

...and then made our way to a gondola ride.

Our gondolier he was great.  He gave gave us a sorts of information on the history, buildings, water ways, etc.
This little piece of history was something that I had to participate in.  If we did nothing else in Venice- we were getting on a gondola.  It is typical for 'gonolas' to be passed down from father to sons.
Walking around the plaza

and around the streets

The day came to an end and it was time to head out.
These pictures are from the drive out:
