Germany: Day 2

Saturday morning we went straight to the train station to try to rent a car.  Not only did we want to drive to Rothenburg and check out that cute little town, we wanted to drive ourselves to the airport tomorrow morning.  If we did not get a car, we would have to get on the bus at 3 am to make our 7:30 flight.  Not only did we want the extra sleep.... we did not want to walk through those streets at 2:30am with the girls.

Renting the car was quick and painless.  We grabbed a bite to eat at the train station and made our way towards Rothenburg.  This little city was so cute and lovely.  I am SO happy we drove out there to walk around their market.  I only wished we had a little more time to walk all of the streets and shops (like a few days at least).

We parked our car right next to an open yard with a swing...
while we gathered our things, the girls played:

Walking into the town:

After Rothenburg, we had one more market to see; Mainz.  Mainz was another very cute town on the water with a cute market center.  We made our way to one side of the market through a crowd or people and thought it was overly crowded because that was all of the food and drink vender's.  After squeezing our way to the other side of the market without being able to see any booths or items for sale, we decided to get back in the car and walk through Frankfurt's market one last time... and eat the delicious food one more time.

Without having luck finding it.... we drove all around the city.... in circles for about an hour before we gave up and went back to the hotel.

Sunday morning we got up before the sun.... hours before the sun to head back to the airport.  We were making great time and allowing ourselves plenty of time to eat something before the flight..... until we came up to an accident or road block of some sort.  Not only did we have ZERO idea of where we were or how to go around.... our GPS took up in a huge circle back to the road block.  This time we turned the other way and after 10 minutes of going wherever the GPS took us, we made it back to the autobahn past the block and 25 minutes behind schedule (and will possibly be receiving a nice little (large) speeding ticket in the mail a year from now).
We finally arrived at the airport.... with minimal time to spare and ran to the check in desk.... straight to security... and walked right onto the flight.  It was a little rushed and stressful (something Steve would have HATED to do) but all in all was a perfect ending to the roller coaster weekend we had.

Germany Christmas markets are fantastic and something I would actually like to go back and do again with the family.  I am so glad Millie suggested going together and am so happy she was with me when all of the events continued occurring.  We were able to find humor in everything and laugh about it as they were happening.  It was also so much fun getting out with just Morgan and spending time doing girl things.  She had a great time and even came home with three sets of stacking dolls!
